Julie has worked as an Occupational Therapist for many years – too many to count! Most of this time
has been in the area of Mental Health with Adults, Adolescents, Children and their Families, and Older
Adults. Of particular interest to her is the quality of the therapeutic relationship – with all age groups.

Originally Julie worked within the WA Health Service with adults in both inpatient and outpatient
settings. Here she developed strong skills in case management, CBT and solution focused work. Whilst
taking time away to be with her children, who are now adults, she embarked on extra study in body-
centred therapies, and this led to an ongoing interest in fatigue and pain conditions.

She then worked in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service developing a day program to assist
the transition from hospital to community/ school. During this time Julie completed training in Trauma
Informed Care and the Just Right State for sensory/
emotional regulation. Julie found working with a
younger population is dynamic and engaging. She was able to further develop her groupwork skills.

Julie believes Occupational Therapists are particularly well trained to have a holisitic approach to their
work knows this is particularly important, when working with complex conditions. She has extensive
experience in working with clients with complex conditions, knowing that our health influences all
aspects of our life, and visa-versa.

Recently, Julie has been working with more culturally diverse populations, having spent some time in
the Pilbara in one of the most isolated aboriginal communities in WA. During this time she has also
attended workshops in the area of loss and grief – seeing the ongoing impact that loss of any kind, can
have on our wellbeing.

When Julie isn’t working, she loves to garden, kayak and practice yoga. Spending time with family is
precious to her, as is her love of birds and animals, so she is often outdoors.
